1963 Morris Mini Minor Mk1 850 – Barn Find – Dry Stored Since 1992 – V5
For sale is a very early 1963 Morris Mini Minor Mk1, registration 5814 RU, which has been stored in a dry garage since 1992.
The car was first registered in June 1963 and retains its early Mk1 features including external door hinges, sliding windows, central Smiths speedometer, early grille and interior fittings.
The chassis plate is present and reads:
Morris Motors Ltd, Cowley, Oxford
Car No. M/A2S4 197399
The car is still in what I believe to be its original green colour and appears to have remained largely untouched during its long period in storage.
The Mini has been in the same dry garage since 1992 and hasn’t been used during that time.
The V5C is present.
I believe the car has had only two owners, although I am currently checking the paperwork/history and will update the listing when confirmed.
The odometer currently displays 13,344 miles, but due to the age of the vehicle this mileage cannot be warranted and may have been around the clock.
The Mini would originally have been fitted with an 848cc engine.
It currently has a later A-series engine fitted. The engine number appears to be:
99H353P-H773
This indicates a 998cc A-series engine, so it is not the original 848cc engine.
The V5C currently records the engine capacity as 1300cc, so there is a discrepancy between the V5C and the engine presently fitted. I don’t know the history of the engine changes and am therefore selling it exactly as found.
There is oil in the engine, but I have deliberately not attempted to start or turn it over after such a long period in storage. I would rather leave this to the new owner to recommission properly.
This is being sold as a complete restoration/recommissioning project, not as a running or roadworthy car.
Considering it has been standing for over 30 years, it appears remarkably complete.
There is surface corrosion and there are some areas/holes that will require attention. As with any unrestored Mk1 Mini, buyers should expect welding and mechanical recommissioning to be required.
I haven’t tried to disguise or repair anything. The photographs form an important part of the description and show the car in essentially the condition in which it was discovered.
The tyres have recently been inflated so the car can be moved, but their age means they should not be considered roadworthy.
The interior remains largely intact and has a number of period modifications, including additional Smiths instruments. Some upholstery/trim and other components have also been changed during the car’s life.
The car retains its attractive original-style dateless registration:
5814 RU
The registration is currently on the vehicle and the V5C is present.
The registration number is being sold with the vehicle and is not being offered separately.
This is a 63-year-old unrestored project that has been stationary since 1992.
It will need to be collected by trailer/transporter and should not be considered suitable to drive away.
I’ve tried to describe the car as accurately and transparently as possible. Inspection before purchase is welcomed and recommended.
A very interesting opportunity to acquire an early 1963 Morris Mini Minor Mk1 that has been hidden away in dry storage for more than three decades.
£5,995 – sensible offers considered.
